Having amassed an unrivaled win record over the last decade, Joel McElhannon is a leading political strategist based in Georgia.
Never inclined to cherry pick frontrunner candidates, McElhannon has made a habit of leading underdog campaigns to victory.
Most celebrated among his many victories, McElhannon guided Bill Heath to victory over Georgia's legendary Democrat House Speaker Tom Murphy, at the time the nation's longest serving House Speaker, and he masterminded Casey Cagle's stunning defeat of nationally recognized conservative leader Ralph Reed to become Georgia's first Republican Lt. Governor.
Today he serves as the chief political strategist to many of Georgia's most influential Republican leaders and non-partisan judicial and law enforcement leaders. He has worked on campaigns in Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia.
As the General Consultant and senior political strategist for political campaigns of various sizes, McElhannon establishes the campaign's overall strategic plan, assembles and manages teams of experienced political professionals, and coordinates the execution of campaign advertising and activities. He is highly regarded for his skills in developing compelling campaign messages, building cohesive teams of talented political operatives, and maximizing the campaign team's strengths to help accomplish the strategic goals of the campaign.
In addition to participating in hundreds of statewide, federal, judicial, legislative, and local campaigns across the South, McElhannon previously served as Director of Public Relations for the Hall County Board of Commissioners and in staff positions for the Georgia Republican Party and the Republican leadership of the Georgia House of Representatives. In 2008, he served as a Regional Political Director for Fred Thompson's 2008 Presidential bid and as a member of the McCain-Palin Georgia Leadership Team.
In 2011, McElhannon was honored by the University of Georgia Alumni Association as one of the inaugural Top 40 Under 40 Alumni of the University of Georgia.
Joel and his wife, Rosemary, currently reside in Athens, Georgia. Outside of cheering on the Dawgs at Sanford Stadium on Saturdays in the fall, they are active supporters of numerous charities and causes. McElhannon currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Balama Project, a ministry devoted to education, economic development, and social healing in war ravaged rural Liberia.
